Customer Reviews:
5 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Guide and Reference   December 7, 2009
A. Dent (Minas Anor, GD)
4 out of 5 found this review helpful

This should be a must have reference for anyone playing Naruto Ultimate Ninja: Storm. I would recommend it without hesitation to anyone who has the game to get the most out of it and, especially, to those who are not too familiar with the world of Naruto to help them make sense of what's going on and begin enjoying the game quicker. I bought this for my big kid who loves the game and he was just thrilled when he got it.

It's a 180-page, large 8.5"x11", full-color, beautifully illustrated comprehensive guide of what the game is about, where to find things and, most importantly, what you can do in the game and how to survive in battles against either a human or a computer opponent.

The first few (short) chapters serve as an introduction that familiarize the player:

- Controller Configuration - suggests 4 possible setups but, keep in mind, the guide assumes that you are using the basic configuration.
- Basic Information - is just that. Tells you what the game is about, the items that you can buy and the price you can buy them for and (some) sell them back and some Village combat basics.
- Ninja Academy - is divided into two sections: Genin Training and Chunin Level Advanced Tactics. It covers everything you ever wanted to know about moves, attacks and defenses.
- Character Guide - is the largest chapter. It is very well researched and it covers every single character. It starts with a brief background on the character and the character's ratings: Speed, Power, Items, Support, Awakening Mode, Ninjutsu, Ultimate Jutsu and Overall. This is followed by two VERY DETAILED and most useful sections on FIGHTING AS that character and FIGHTING AGAINST that character.
- Ultimate Mission Mode - covers each of the over 100 missions in some very amazing detail. You get information on the mission type followed by a good summary, then there is information on the character in use, target, prerequisites, XP required, and so on... Everything is documented.

The last 3 chapters are:

- Unlockables Guide - tells you which character is required and the method to be used.
- Hidden Leaf Village Maps - has 4 full-color, full-page maps: 'Items that can be carried or broken', 'Chest and ingredients bag replacements', and invaluable in the beginning 'Save point locations' and 'Switch Gimmick and Rasengan destructible wall locations'
- Artwork - has a dozen or so full-page, full-color... artwork.

In summary form, this is what I like about this book:

+ comprehensive - has everything you will ever need or want to know
+ well organized - it's very easy to find the information you need, just start with the table of contents
+ written in good English by an English-speaking author, not a translation
+ excellent graphics and illustration, most of them in full color

This book is 'all positives' with one exception: it would be so much easier to use and keep in good shape if it came as a spiral bound. I don't think it would cost that much more to produce it that way.

Oh, and one more thing: many thanks to Bryan Dawson, the author, for this great, great, great, well researched and well organized work and... no, I've never spoken to or met the man :)
